As of mid December 2022 PADI stopped providing physical certification cards to new graduates of the Open Water program.  Instead divers are given a digital cert card that they can access through their online accounts.

We stress these age restrictions with utmost care to ensure the safety and proper training of young divers. It is crucial to fully comprehend the specific requirements and limitations associated with age in the context of scuba activities. According to the Divers Alert Network:  Psychological immaturity in minors may hinder their ability to react to underwater emergencies compared to adults, potentially leading to uncontrolled rapid ascents and an increased risk of pulmonary barotrauma. While some PADI schools locally and globally, especially those with lesser liability concerns, offer introductory scuba programs for children as young as 8, such programs necessitate constant supervision by instructors who are experienced with and have formal training with in-water child/infant supervision.

eLearning Questions

eLearning and epiration

My PADI eLearning® program indicates it is “expired” and will not let me continue. What does this mean?PADI eLearning programs are valid for 12 months from the time you first log on. Prior to the end of this 12-month period, you’re reminded via email at 90 days and again at 60 days before the expiration date. If you let your PADI eLearning program expire, please contact your affiliated PADI Dive Center or Resort to discuss options for completing your training.

Troubleshooting PADI eLearning

There is only so much that we at Scuba Fusion can do to help you troubleshoot eLearning problems. Below is some helpful information that usually helps. First thing to do is clear your browser cache.  We have found that clearing the browser cache of your device solves most issues with eLearning.

Problem: I’m having problems registering for eLearning. What may be the cause?

Common causes for registration issues and their solutions include:

  1. Using a Mobile Device:
    • Ensure a stable internet connection as it is required for account creation and registration.
    • Internet connectivity is also necessary for submitting knowledge development, quiz, and final exam scores.
  2. Internet Explorer Compatibility:
    • The PADI eLearning system is not compatible with the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer.
    • Update your browser or use recommended browsers such as Chrome, Safari (for Mac), or Firefox.
  3. Firewall Issues:
    • Corporate proxies or company firewalls may cause difficulties.
    • It is recommended to register from your home computer to avoid firewall restrictions.
  4. Browser Restart:
    • If issues persist, close the browser completely, and restart it before attempting registration again.

Problem: The name or email on my eLearning account is misspelled. How can I change it?

For name corrections, contact your local PADI Regional Headquarters, and for minor email spelling mistakes, contact the regional headquarters as well. Allow 5-10 business days for corrections:

Problem: I need to change the language of my PADI eLearning program. How can I do this?

To change the language, if available, contact your local PADI Regional Headquarters. Allow 1-2 business days for the change:

Problem: Can I change the associated Dive Center or Resort with my eLearning account?

Once registered, you cannot change the associated Dive Center or Resort online. However, the eRecord received upon completion is accepted by any PADI Dive Center, Resort, or Instructor worldwide.

Pool Program Questions

Orientation required

Certainly! In fact, the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) mandates it. Visit the store 7–14 days before your class for the orientation, where you’ll size instructional gear like wetsuits and BCs for pool use. During this visit, complete the medical release and liability forms in person (remote or last-minute submissions are not accepted). If you need personal gear, it should be selected during this time. Preparing for a PADI scuba class involves several crucial steps, and due to standards set by the scuba training agency, these tasks cannot be completed remotely. What should I bring

Embarking on scuba lessons necessitates essential equipment – a mask, snorkel, fins, boots, and gloves. It’s imperative to procure these items from the store where you are undertaking your lessons. Unlike snorkeling classes, scuba training involves depths of up to 60ft, and personal safety, comfort, and fit make renting these items impractical.

Before making any purchases, inquire about the recommended gear for the course. Acquiring subpar equipment from discount stores might seem economical initially but can lead to additional expenses due to replacements. Assessing the fit and comfort of a mask is crucial, and plastic lens masks and flimsy child-sized snorkeling fins are unsuitable for scuba courses. Details about gear needed >

Also, You must bring a swimsuit to your scuba program. Divers generally wear swimsuits under wetsuits at the pool but also at Monterey. You will need a swimsuit for the pool training and also the swim evaluation.

There is a swim test

Bring your swim suit.  You don’t need to be a strong swimmer or an athlete to scuba dive, but some degree of comfort in the water certainly helps. The PADI swim test or swim evaluation will be conducted at the pool. Divers will demonstrate that they can comfortably maintain themselves in water too deep in which to stand by completing a 10-minute swim/ float without using any swim aids. Candidates will also complete a 200 metre/yard continuous surface swim or a 300 metre/ yard swim with mask, fins and snorkel.The test is pass or fail but can be retaken at the next available pool class – the first retake is free of charge.

The PADI Scuba class, pool program, and ocean checkout dives operate on a pass or fail basis. While Scuba Fusion aims for successful graduation, they acknowledge the impossibility of guaranteeing it. Instead, they promise a comfortable learning environment, designed and standardized by PADI, allowing each student sufficient time to acquire essential skills. Diving is statistically safe, but it demands a certain comfort level in Academics, Pool, and Ocean Dives. Training fees don’t cover certification and are non-refundable. Referral paperwork and the certification card are provided as graduation gifts, not requiring additional purchase.

Transportation needed

Bring a car or truck to class. Students provide their own transportation. During dive training students will be taking and transporting diving equipment for use in their class. This includes such things as diving cylinders, weight belts, wetsuits and any diving equipment needed for the class. Services such as Uber and Lyft are used by students often. Transporting wet diving equipment can cause damage to stereo equipment, paper documents and anything that may have an adverse reaction to fresh or salt water. If the fact/idea that water may damage a stereo, cell phone or any electronics for that matter is a new concept to you, we would suggest dropping the idea of taking scuba lessons and pursue another less academically demanding sport.

Do I need a hotel for the Monterey Weekend?

Should I Secure Lodging in Monterey for My Scuba Course?

The necessity of booking a hotel in Monterey hinges on the specific course you’re undertaking. Given that Monterey is a two-hour drive from San Mateo, our recommendation varies based on the nature of the scuba program.

For beginners participating in open water dives, it is advisable to arrange accommodation for at least Saturday night, and if feasible, Friday night as well. The class typically convenes at 7 am, and with the drive time, it can be challenging to make the round trip on the same day.

For the Advanced course, securing a hotel is highly recommended. This is due to the likelihood of a night dive concluding late on Saturday night, followed by an early morning boat departure for subsequent dives. The logistics make overnight stay essential.

For single-day tours and other courses, the necessity of lodging depends on the specific schedule.

It’s important to note that Monterey frequently hosts events, impacting hotel prices. Auto shows, motorcycle races, and air shows contribute to fluctuations. Plan ahead, coordinating your class dates with hotel bookings, as our programming schedules are established months in advance. Unfortunately, we cannot adjust class dates around Monterey events, but alternative weekends are always an option.

Familiarize yourself with the hotel’s cancellation policy, considering the occasional course cancellation due to weather. If securing a hotel in Monterey proves challenging, explore nearby towns like Salinas or Santa Cruz. While driving back after classes is an option, it is not recommended.

The PADI Scuba class, pool program, and ocean checkout dives program operate on a pass or fail basis.
